Olympics And Theatrics
I have a few things on twitter about my reaction, one of them being down on the announcers for making fun of the Vietnamese for only being good a the Math Olympics. I think it was Costus.
Written on the Saturday After(lightly editted):
Friday was an amazing day in sports, entertainment, China, and the Fire Works Industry, the Opening Ceremony for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The Theatrics at the beginning I Unfortunately missed and had to track it down on the internet, and even then I only got a few Clips of it and a slide show. which is disappointing because NBC decided to Ignore the Fact that us Open Source Hippies also Like choreographed events On an Epic Scale.
Side rant: When you are serving up one of the worlds most popular sporting events, why would you dare choose Silver Light a web platform adopted by no one, when You already have a video service called Hulu. and then ask a lot of questions about where you live, your cable provider, what package you subscribe to, and what your local NBC is. when all I want to do is watch some thing they just showed on TV tape delayed about 12 hours. End rant.
The Parade of Nations, was Pretty much non-Plus, until they got to China and Told the Story of Lin Hao, who freed himself from the Rubble of the Sichuan Earthquake and went back to help find his classmates. I was Touched and Emotional and acted like such a Girly man.
And then They met Gary Vee in India, borrowed his Thunder, and Blew the any future for the OC of the Olympics. London is screwed. For a While they made me laugh with the Peter Pan Antics of the Final Torch Bearer, but then Completely Rocked the 5 Rings and Blew up the Cauldron and Fired every Pyrotech on earth over the National Stadium.
I was later able to watch the beginning on NBC at F*** o'clock in the morning. which sort of killed my enthusiasm, but that being ignored it was well performed and as amazing as I thought it would be after watching the slideshow. Except for the Guys in Green Light suits, that was totally stupid. But I think the Cute Cheerleaders along the Parade make up for it.
But even though my excitement Dwindle at points, I have to admit that this was possible the most elaborate Opening Ceremonies ever and Gives London something to worry about. So since my patience with NBC Died, I can't give this more than 4 out of 5 stars, but if NBC could Run a Panda Express much less a Television Station, this could have been a 5 out of 5.
